What science knows

Immortelle essential oil is distilled from the golden flower heads, and the yield is tiny — a great weight of flowers for very little oil, which places it among the most costly essential oils in natural cosmetics. Its signature compounds include neryl acetate and the italidiones, associated in cosmetic literature with comfort and a visibly renewed look.

What tradition says

The flowers keep their colour long after cutting — hence immortelle, the "everlasting" flower. On the sun-baked hillsides of Corsica and the Balkans, it has long been the folk remedy for skin weathered by wind and sun.
